macassar ebony dome with sterling silver inlay

how to commission a piece of fine furniture

The commissioning process starts with contact from a potential client. This is usually followed by a visit to the client's home or a meeting at our workshop to discuss budget, design and ideas.

The next stage is drawings and for all new clients there is a charge of £250 to cover time - this is REFUNDABLE on the final price of the piece. These may be rendered CAD images or coloured drawings. All drawings and designs remain the property of Marc Fish unless previously agreed. Drawings are produced for the client's input - these are sometimes amended or discarded and new ones drawn up. Sometimes a model will be presented instead of drawings.

When we have drawings that the client is totally happy with, we can then give an exact costing. A 60% deposit is payable at this point. A rough delivery date is agreed and the final payment is due on delivery.

Clients are encouraged to visit the piece whilst it is being crafted and sometimes fine changes can be incorporated at these visits.

Give it a try - it might be the most rewarding experience of your life and cheaper than having children!
